It's great to be able to introduce Daphne as a new member of theWeather Club. But Daphne is no ordinary member, she's a VW campervan. With stunning turquoise blue paint work and cloud stickers all over her, she comes fitted and ready to take on a tour of Britain this week.
I went to meet Daphne in a small place called Bigglewade, near Stevenage, on Friday. Our drive back to Reading was one of those 'getting to know you' experiences. No power steering, only 4 gears and top speed of 65mph, so it was life in the slow lane for me. It's a pleasure to actually experience driving again after being used to the luxuries of a modern car. Parking was interesting, to say the least.
Driving a larger vehicle than I'm used to, I felt more exposed to the elements. The cross wind down the A1 gave me something to think about over than finding third gear. Let's hope when we cross the Severn Bridge on Wednesday we don't have high winds.
You can follow Daphne and I on Twitter (DrLizBentley) as we tour round Britain to launch the Great British Weather Experiment. Maybe you'll even see us out and about at one of the 17 locations we will be visiting.
