News > BBC documentary asks "What is one degree of temperature?"
Comedian Ben Miller, who studied physics at Cambridge before deciding that his future lay with funny parts rather than serious particles, returns to his academic roots to answer what, on the face of it, sounds like a very simple questions: what is one degree of temperature? Given the one-hour running time of this documentary, it is fortunate that this fairly fundamental question turns out to be rather more complex than it at first appears. Miller's quest for answers takes him to meet researchers working to discover the hottest and coldest temperatures in the universe, and to a lab where some of the strangest effects of quantum physics are on view - with super-cooled liquids passing through solid glass.
